iLifeSensor on the iPhone - Part II
Review
In the second part of our feature on iLifesensor I am going to take the application for a test drive. I will go through adding a weight value to a record and I will show how you can edit a blood pressure record. You can also see what medications are in your LifeSensor record although you cannot edit them or add them from the iLifesensor web app. If you want to take a look at the application and you don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch then check out the resource section for a link to an iPhone emulator.
Navigating the application
When you call up the home page of the application under https://www.ilifesensor.mobi you see a start page, which allows you to log into the application. You log into iLifesensor using the same username and password as for your LifeSensor account. As it is a beta release or a demo application, you will see a dialog box warning about the certificate for the site. Rest assured it is trustworthy so click OK. You can also have the application remember your user name and password by checking the box "Auf diesem iPhone merken". This reduces the time needed to log in the next time you use the application.
Note: You have to have an existing LifeSensor account in order to do this.
Once you have sucessfully logged in you are presented with the application's main menu. You have three possibilities you can enter weight (Gewicht), blood pressure (Blutdruck) or view your Medication (Medikation) details.
To open the screen where you can enter a new weight value, tap on the value displayed beside weight (Gewicht). This is the last value that was entered, in this case 70.4 KG. You are then presented with a screen showing a simple graph with the trend from day to day and a chronological listing of the individual entries.
Tap the plus button (+) to enter a new weight value. The current date and time are automatically displayed. You can of course edit any of the fields here if need be.
Click on save (Speichern) and you are finished. You will see the new value as the first entry in the list. If you log into your LifeSensor record you will also find the newly entered weight value under Medical Data, Measurements.
You follow the same procedure to add a blood pressure value. From the main menu page select Blutdruck and you see the a page as shown below left.
To enter a new value you again you just need to tap the plus button on the top right of the screen. You then then see a page like below right.
If you want to edit an existing entry click on Bearbeiten and you see the following screen. You can delete the entire entry by clicking the red button titled Eintrag löschen or alternatively edit any of the fields.
When you have finished recording your values use the Menü (menu) button on the top left of the screen to navigate back to the menu and from there you can log out.
Finally to see your the medications that you have been currently prescribed select Medikation from the main menu. You should then see a screen listing any medications you have been prescribed. You can not add medications from the iLifesensor web application. This can currently only be done from within LifeSensor.
By clicking on the medication you can see further information including start and end dates for taking the medication and any notes that you or a doctor has entered are shown in the Bemerkung field.
Summary
All in all this is a very clean and simple application. It follows the Apple design paradigm, which puts the empahasis on doing a limited set of things well. iLifesensor has a small but useful feature set that allows you to go mobile and easily enter key health values on the go.
The next part of this series will focus on building your own iLifesensor application.
